Help Hector walk again.

This is Hector. A very much loved 4 year old member of our family. Hector is a Bedlington Whippet cross he completes our family and quite simply he is the best.

On Wednesday the 4th June we left Hector with Jack our black Lab as always to go and watch our children’s Sports day.

When we returned we noticed he didn’t look right, he was trembling and hunched over. We immediately called our local vet and awaited advise. It was a long and worrying night. By the Morning Hector had deteriorated rapidly and I rushed him straight to the vet. Hector was now paralysed from the hips back.

On arrival we were referred out to a specialist spinal practice for an emergency MRI and spinal surgery.

Needless to say everything happened extremely quickly, we would be called and informed of the findings, Hector would remain under anaesthetic for us to make a decision. This was extremely hard, but we could not have felt more reassured by the team.

However, for those that know us you will be aware that this is not the first time we have been faced with making such a huge and horrible decision. Our Boxer when she was only 5 also had spinal surgery. The surgery on both occasions has meant doing what is right by our pet and helping them in the best way possible. Sadly we all have financial limits that sometimes are outside of our control. Having done this once I cannot quite believe we are back here again, especially with this breed, but here we are. Hector is fighting post surgery the progress is static since waking up after 6 hours of anaesthetic and major surgery by a truly wonderful team. The future is unknown as to how long it will be before he walks no one knows, he might never walk, but we remain optimistic and we know that we have given him the best fighting chance.
