Update on Friday June 2nd: Nathan is HOME and was able to walk through the doors of his home!!! Tears of joy were FLOWING by everyone involved! He will continue months of outpatient physical therapy to get back to CAMPING NATE as quickly as he can! He is working so hard towards that goal every day. On Saturday June 3rd he was able to watch his 9 yr old son play in his soccer championship & they won it all!!! So wonderful that Nathan could be there for that accomplishment! Continued prayers for continued healing are so appreciated by all!
Update on Wednesday, May 17th: Nathan has been putting in a ton of HARD work while in the rehabilitation facility in physical therapy and occupational therapy. He's still got his sense of humor and told his brother the other day that he's "kicking PT's ass!" He is gaining some movement on his left side (which is the affected side from the stroke) and is showing so much improvement as each day goes by! He is working so hard towards a full recovery and all of your donations, meals, and especially prayers mean so much to the entire family!!! Thank you to each and everyone of you!
Update on Thursday, May 11th: After 10+ days in the ICU at Akron Summa Hospital, Nathan has been transferred to a rehabilitation facility closer to home! Now begins his long road to recovery! A link for an online meal train has been set up for the Conrad family if anyone is interested in providing them with a meal! All the prayers, well wishes & donations are greatly appreciated by all!
Update on Monday, May 8th: Nathan is improving as each day goes! On Sunday, May 7th, he passed his swallow test and was given the A-Ok to start drinking and eating solid foods, his biggest request was orange Hi-C from McDonald's with alot of ice! He still has his sense of humor, love for movies & quoting the movie lines! Yesterday he was singing along with Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory songs and talking about how much his 9 yr old son used to love to watch that movie! He has a positive attitude & understands how much work it's going to take to get to a full recovery! There is even some discussion of transferring him out of ICU & into a rehabilitation facility in the next few days to start the rehab process of learning to use his left side all over again. With Nathan's perseverance, hard work and God by his side we are very hopeful for a full recovery!
Update on Friday, May 5th: Nathan has been taken off of sedation and also the breathing machine has been removed!!! So, he is awake, breathing on his own and even talking, our family is so thankful to God and all of the generous donations and shares of this fundraiser. The original goal was increased after our family realized just how long Nathan would remain in the hospital. It's going to be long road ahead but we know that Nathan has the will and drive to get over this mountain! We are so appreciative of everyone's thoughts, prayers and donations!
On April 30, 2023, Nathan Conrad experienced a life-threatening blood clot in his brain. He was rushed by ambulance to Aultman Hospital and then quickly life-flighted to Akron Summa Hospital for an emergency craniotomy to evacuate the blood clot. He is currently sedated and intubated, giving his brain time to heal. Plans are to slowly reduce his oxygen and sedation over the next few days. The family is hopeful for a full recovery, but this will take quite a bit of time and perseverance on Nathan‘s part!
Nathan is a husband to Jackie and a father to two boys, 9 and 14. He's also a Marine veteran who served two tours in Iraq fighting for the freedom of Americans after 9/11.
Please consider donating to this GoFundMe account to help cover medical and living expenses for this veteran and his family; gas cards and/or food gift cards are also appreciated.
Jackie and the boys are so grateful for the love and support they are receiving from their friends and family! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and for all the ways you are blessing us during this time. Semper Fi and God Bless!
