Hi, my name is Emily, and I'm fundraising for my dear friend, Shea. On April 11th, 2023, Shea was the victim of a hit-and-run while riding her bike. In the accident, her handlebar punctured her thigh near her femoral artery and compounded her other knee, making it impossible for her to walk for over a week. Luckily, some nearby fisherman found Shea after she had been hit and tied a tourniquet around her thigh to prevent her from bleeding out, something we strongly believe saved her life.
At first, it seemed as though she left the incident unable to walk or work for a week with some other lingering injuries, including the trauma of the accident, while her puncture wound healed. However, on April 28th, 2023, her left knee began to swell and became rapidly infected within hours. Shea took herself to the hospital to find out she had an internal infection, Sepsis, and doctors needed to act quickly.
Shea works as a bartender and barista and genuinely just wants to get back to work and be around people again! She also works as a flower farmer and is eager to be healthy enough to be outside again, healthy, and able to begin creating in her garden.
Shea has minimal coverage through her health insurance given her service industry jobs, so the looming medical bills and her inability to work are causing severe additional stress in her life while she fights hard in the hospital to recover and get healthy. Currently, she is predicted to stay in the hospital for at least a week while they monitor her infection and provide treatment. So far, she is at a total of three weeks without income and has no additional support to aid at this time.
Any support for Shea in her recovery is so appreciated! If there is anything you can contribute at all to help this ray of sunshine get back on her feet, it would mean so much to her and the people who love her. Shea is a radiant human with an enormous heart and my hope is that through this fundraiser, we can come together to help support her at this difficult time.
