Luz Mary Jimenez Shanti died peacefully at home on April 30, 2023, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Luz Mary was born in Bogota, Colombia on March 3, 1957. She emigrated to the United States in 1969, where she attended Rahway High School and then Livingston College at Rutgers University. She graduated in 1980 with a B.S. degree in Biology. Luz Mary worked in Quality Assurance and Validation at Johnson & Johnson and Ortho Biotech for more than 20 years and finished her career in the pharmaceutical industry employed for 6 years at Pfizer and 4 years at Wyeth.
After she retired, she established her own business in 2015, Luz Shanti Yoga Therapy LLC, to pursue and share her passion for a holistic yogic approach to healing, health and wellness. Luz Mary earned certifications as a yoga teacher, comprehensive yoga therapist and craniosacral therapist. Her methods focused on improving the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health of her clients. Luz worked with autistic children, using Yoga practices and energy medicine to teach parents and caregivers a new understanding of the autistic child in their life, creating hope and healing instead of frustration and struggle.
Luz Mary combined her passion for travel with her desire to learn more about holistic healing, traveling to ancient sacred remote locations; including henges in England (including Stonehenge), Sarmizegetusa Regia in Romania, Machu Picchu in Peru, The Great Pyramids in Giza Egypt, and various temples in India. She built a Holistic School in Romania focused on the study of Healing Energy.
Luz Mary is survived by her sons, David John Bernick and Daniel Joseph Bernick, her brother Jose E. Jimenez, cousins Luis Rodriguez, Gloria Rodriguez, Adrianna Henriksen, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother Gloria Jimenez Vento.
Luz Mary was a kind, generous and loving person who gave all of herself to others; family, friends and strangers alike. She took great joy in the success and happiness of the people around her, and her love and light will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege and pleasure of knowing her. She touched the lives of so many people from all walks of life and had a positive impact on everyone she met.
Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral services for Luz Mary to be held at the Pettit-Davis Funeral Home, 371 W. Milton Ave, Rahway, NJ 07065, May 6th, 2023. The viewing will be held 9:30 -11:30 am, followed by a Memorial Service. Afterwards will be the procession to the Rahway Cemetery for her final resting place, Rahway Cemetery, Jardine Section, Plot #88E, 1670 St Georges Ave, Rahway, NJ 07065.
