Hello all,
as many friends and family will know, I have had severe myopia since elementary school. Since age 8, my eyes have required heavy vision correction for my eyesight to function normally. Before even entering high school, my myopia was so severe that I was at risk for retinal detachment.
My eyesight is now -850/20 dioptres. For reference, normal vision is 20/20 dioptres. I cannot drive, work, read, or generally function at all without my current corrective lenses. I cannot even see my phone clearly unless I am literally holding it to my nose. Every part of my life revolves around having my glasses/contacts within reach at all times. As my eyesight has become worse and worse the past few years, my safety has become more and more of a concern. I am at a higher risk for retinal detachment, and if I were unable to access or use my current modes of vision correction, I would fear for my safety and be unable to function.
LASIK had always been the eventual solution for me, as my glasses are extremely heavy and warp my vision, and contact lenses are too thick now to wear without eye irritation and headaches. However, during an investigative eye exam to prepare for LASIK surgery, my opthalmologist found that my eyes are so severely deteriorated that they are "too far gone" for LASIK. The only remaining option for me is ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), a surgical procedure in which a new lens is implanted beneath my irises.
The procedure is extremely costly at $8,000, and unfortunately not a penny of it can be covered by my insurance. Because I have no credit history, I do not qualify for the 12-month payment plan the surgery center provides. I am able to fund half of this procedure with my savings, and I humbly ask for contributions toward the $4,000 I cannot cover.
I feel very vulnerable seeking donations and I know this is a lot to ask, but I'd very much appreciate any help you can give. Your support would have a monumental impact on my life.
