Hi, my name is Emily Burkett and I am the neighbor of Ian Frederik and his family. On Monday, April 17, Ian, 28 years old, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in both hemispheres of his brain. Ian is making slow but steady progress but remains in the ICU. These past few weeks have been extremely critical and he has withstood intubation, surgery to remove blood clots in his legs (thrombectomy), EBD drain placed temporarily in his head to relieve pressure and cerebral spinal fluid in his brain, and many other therapeutic procedures. In the coming weeks, Ian will need a PET scan to address swollen lymph nodes in his stomach and a swallow test. He is learning to communicate again and has been giving fist bumps and thumbs up! Still, Ian has a long road of recovery ahead of him as he is paralyzed on his right side. Ian will eventually be moved to a Neuro-Progressive Care Unit and then start inpatient rehab prior to returning home. He will need plenty of care and equipment to ensure his safety at home when he is released from the hospital (probably in another couple of months). The Frederiks are an integral part of the community and are loved by so many. This small gesture of a donation can help cover extended care and accessibility modifications when he comes home.
