The North West Passage

Next year, Matty Clarke and Adam Riley are attempting a first in Arctic exploration. To transit the Northwest Passage in under three months using nothing but a pair of homemade rowboats. Until very recently, such an undertaking would have been impossible, but due to the warming effects of climate change, the sea ice that normally blocks the passage for most of the year is receding further and further each season. The knock-on effects of this warming cycle are rapidly changing both the landscape and the way people interact with the environment. The threats to the delicate balance of a fragile ecosystem are numerous, and we want to capture the beauty and grandeur of this vast wilderness landscape before it is changed forever. The money we raise from This Kickstarter will give us the tools and resources we need to create a full-length feature documentary and book of this epic undertaking.

Matty and Adam are no strangers to wilderness exploration. They have both tackled expeditions in the furthest regions of the world and lived to tell their tales.

Matty has been exploring the wilds of Canada his entire life. As an outdoor content creator, his resume includes canoeing over 1000km up the Athabasca River, building a log cabin in the remote Yukon, and surviving alone for months in northern Labrador. His talent at "getting the shot" even when conditions take a nose-dive and his incredible 'Newfie' work ethic is the perfect combination for capturing the thousands of miles needed to pass under our oars. This is a Canadian expedition, and he feels strongly that a Canadian should be there to undertake one of the final achievements in Arctic exploration.

Adam has planned several expeditions, and spent many months alone both at sea and in the Canadian wilderness, including a stint on season 9 of the History Channel's hit program, "Alone". He is an experienced boatbuilder and sailor, and his knowledge of ocean navigation, weather, and expedition logistics are a key component in this endeavour. He's planning on using the notes and photos captured from this expedition to write a book that he hopes will be readable. Regardless of the ultimate success or failure of the expedition, he thinks there will be a pretty damn good story to tell.
