29-year-old Savanah Reynoso is a daughter, sister, wife and a truly beautiful woman. She lives in McGregor, Texas with her husband Bertin and their two miniature wiener dogs, Rocky and Minnie. After receiving a bachelor's degree from Texas State University Savanah was eager to start a career and a family, but on May 1, 2018, she was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer de novo (MBC) or stage IV breast cancer.
At that time the cancer had spread from her left breast to four lymph nodes and the liver. Savanah opted to have a bilateral (double) mastectomy while removing 35 lymph nodes. She has since undergone chemotherapy, radiation, a liver ablation, several courses of targeted treatments, and participated in a clinical trial testing an experimental drug combination.
There is currently no cure for MBC. Each and every procedure, treatment and trial is only ever intended to keep her stable. Stable is not a cure and is the best she can hope for, but as each one of the treatments does and continues to stop working the cancer continues to grow and spread. MRIs, CAT, PET and bone scans have revealed it has spread to the bone, liver and lungs. With every new scan Savanah’s anxiety is at times unbearable as she nervously waits to hear if the cancer has grown or spread to another part of her body.
The past five years have been full of emotional highs & lows, countless and never-ending side effects, ER visits, hospital stays, and the weekly 8 Hour road trips to M.D. Anderson. Despite everything this diagnosis has thrust upon her, Savanah remains strong and resilient. Since her diagnosis, Savanah has walked the runway during NYC fashion week, returning the following year in a volunteer capacity, modeled a line of apparel tailored to women diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer, been published in a magazine, participated on breast cancer advocacy panels, writes and publishes across multiple platforms, and had the grand wedding of her dreams. Savanah really enjoys traveling and has been to New York City several times, LA twice, Philly, Colorado, and Yellowstone via an RV road trip. She loves making memories with her husband & two doggies and Sunday dinners with family.
Savanah continues to LIVE through it all.
