Help Kamryn Receive Environmental Education

I believe there is no better investment we can make than in our youth and their futures. That's why I'm launching this fundraiser to help my niece Kamryn get to Exeter! I could give you a million reasons why she deserves this opportunity, but I'll let her tell you what this experience would mean to her. We would be grateful for your support!

From Kamryn:

I have the opportunity to attend Phillips Exeter Academy, one of the oldest and most prestigious secondary schools in the United States. At Exeter Summer, the focus is on learning through preparation, careful listening, well-considered discussion contributions, and collaboration. I will get to participate in courses that are taught using Harkness, a philosophy based on student-led group discussions. As an ambitious female Native American high school student from a rural community in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this is an extraordinary opportunity to create a better future for myself and my community. I'm excited to share that I've been accepted under Exeter's competitive scholarship program, which will cover my tuition and housing, but there are additional costs that are out of reach for my family that I need help with. These costs include books and technology to support the educational programs, cultural activities including art and recreation, and travel-related costs. My family works very hard to support me and my two sisters but the cost of this program is beyond what we can afford.

I will be taking an environmental science class, meditation in the morning, and leadership for a better world. When I participated in Future City, a gifted and talented educational program, under my leadership our team received several awards for our green city project. That experience has inspired me to pursue higher education in environmental engineering. Not only will I use the skills I will learn at the Exeter Academy to advance my education, but I plan to learn how to improve not only my community but also the world. Phillips Exeter Academy will provide me with the educational resources I need to learn how to use my voice to contribute positively to addressing our global environmental problems. 

I'm really excited about this opportunity to travel beyond my rural community and to meet people from all around the world with different ethnic and economic backgrounds. This opportunity would not be possible without the scholarship from Exeter and the funds I hope to raise from generous supporters like you!
