Emory’s Intensive Therapy Journey

Hey everyone! Sorry for the long post but We are ready to announce some EXCITING news about Emory..

We have been presented with a BIG opportunity for Emory for the month of August. We are hoping and praying that this opportunity will allow Emory to gain skills that he currently lacks but we know he will reach (on his time). We are so grateful for how much Emory has learned and gained despite the obstacles that he has faced. Emory works very hard day in and out with his therapist, specialist, doctors etc. to get where he is now. This road has not been easy but we’re grateful for this “road”, Because we know that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers and we have one strong little guy.

Just a little insight on Emory:

I had a really great pregnancy with Emory. Pregnancy was normal and everything was well with Emory after delivery. Emory was born full term at 38 weeks & 4 days. Things took a turn for Emory around 6/7 months of age. We were not aware prior of anything going on with him until this time. Emory was diagnosed with a rare disorder, that was not Genetic. Genetic testing was done and confirmed that what happened with him was just something that was beyond our control. We are thankful that God gave Emory to us and will love him regardless of a diagnosis or not. We will not let this and have not let this define him. Emory is Emory. Emory was diagnosed with an airway disorder (that you can possibly grow out of) but has caused some feeding difficulties & sensory issues for Emory. Emory was aspirating with thin liquids but has since passed his swallow studies . At the age of 6 months Emory started having infantile spasms which are similar to seizures but are worse than seizures and are damaging. These spasms were misdiagnosed for a month (for reflux). Since then Emory has been fighting with the limitations and delays caused by this. Emory, by the grace of God continues to beat odds and continues to push through any and everything that comes his way. God has a purpose for everything, even when we don’t know the why. ️

With that being said, We have recently found an out of state opportunity open to Emory. It’s an intense therapy program (DMI) that Emory’s doctors and therapists feel Emory will greatly benefit from. Emory has worked very hard in his therapy programs to get to this point where he is ready for some intensive. Intensive is provided for multiple hours on a daily basis for a limited number of weeks. Intensive therapy is designed to retrain the brain and body to work together more effectively by utilizing high repetitions of movement patterns and exercises in a concentrated period of time. Intensive therapy has been proven to help with gains in several areas; in such a short period of time. It consists of direct physical therapy for up to four hours per day, five days per week.

Sadly this is not available in South Carolina. This program is out of state. It is a 2,3 or 4 week program that does not accept out of state insurance and will have to be paid for out of pocket for each session. Emory will be receiving two types of therapy during this session in August. (feeding and physical therapy) Due to how extensive this therapy could be Emory will start out with the 2 week program to see how well he does. Intensive therapy is very expensive so we have decided to do some fundraising to help Emory on his intensive journey.

Rodney and I have and will continue to pour everything we have into helping Emory get all the care he needs but if you feel led to bless Emory and help him on this journey or to just stand with us in prayer that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping Emory!

With the help of our family & friends; we can all help give Emory this amazing opportunity that could be life changing for him. He has worked so hard and is ready to take on the “impossible”. #StrongerthanthestormEmoryStr️n️g

As always THANK YOU to each and every person who prays for Emory, cheers him on and keeps up with our sweet boys journey.
