Update: My company, Reverie Coffee Roasters, is going to select at random a donor to win a $250 valued coffee prize package just to help boost the interest. Thank you!
Sasha Kosminski went missing on December 16, 2020, creating a tidal wave of confusion and concern throughout the Newton, KS community. This was felt by no one no more than her surviving daughter, Kalie Kosminski, a then high school student at Newton High. Sasha's body was recently discovered by Harvey County authorities and subsequentially laid to rest on Friday, April 28th after being missing for over 2 and a half years missing.
Kalie (now age 20), is a student at Bethel College in North Newton, KS, and is about to finish her sophomore year as a first-generation college attendee. She recently had the difficult role of laying her mother's body to rest with the support of her surviving grandparents. The financial burden for Sasha's final expense, a responsibility of Kalie and her grandparents, is nearly $10,000. A few friends have set up this Go Fund Me page to help raise the funds to cover these expenses, because no child should be left with the burden of carrying the costs of burying their parent. Any funds raised over the funeral expense will be given directly to Kalie to assist in funding her college education.
I came to meet Kalie when my company took over her place of employment, Reverie Roasters at Mojos. She quickly became a friend and continues to be one of the most reliable and consistent employees in our North Newton cafe. She was a little quiet at first, but after I got to know her, I began to understand why she was so well-liked at work and in school. It was only after knowing her for about 11 months I learned her mother had disappeared two years earlier. Having lost my mother to cancer 12 years earlier, I had an understanding of the feeling of losing a parent, but not in a situation that left so many unknown answers. I knew I wanted to help as soon as I heard the news of Sasha's discovery.
Kalie's work friends are a big part of her daily life. Madison Roth has worked with Kalie since she started her job with Mojos Coffee Bar. "Kalie was one of the first people to talk to me and make me feel welcomed at Mojos," says Madison. "She's always been someone who just makes my day better just by being around."
Like all of us at Reverie, Madison hopes the fundraiser can ease some of the stress that comes with this difficult situation and give Kalie time to focus on herself through the grieving.
Thank you in advance to everyone who pledges in support of our friend, Kalie Kosminski, as she and her family navigate through these difficult next steps. I have no doubt the Netwon, North Newton and greater Harvey County will step up and show support for the entire Kosminski family.
Sincerely,
Andrew Gough and Team Reverie
