Hi! I'm Sezer, and I'm a cat. I love to chase blue jays and lizards, rumble with my kitty roommates Roopiee and Yunior, and play with my good dog Donna. I live with my people Dave and Jenna, and I check in with my friends and neighbors around Taylor Park and the Taylor Art Studio. Last Sunday something happened to me and now I'm stuck in a cage and my right leg doesn't work. I'll let Jenna tell the rest, because narrative is not my strong suit.
Hi, I'm Jenna, Sezer's food person. Last Sunday Sezer came for dinner, and then went out on his rounds. He didn't come to breakfast Monday, and we were concerned right away. He didn't come to dinner either, nor to breakfast Tuesday, and then we started to worry. We texted neighbors Iris and Roman, George, and Justin, all of whom feed and visit with Sezer, and asked at the Art Studio, where he is The Mayor. Nobody had seen him. They were worried too.
On Saturday, one week later, he dragged himself into our yard with a broken right leg and dislocated hip, and a badly scraped and lacerated face and broken tooth. It gradually became clear he'd been hit by a car. We rushed him to the vet, where the exams showed he was overall pretty healthy, despite not eating for a week, but his leg was in bad shape from being broken and out of joint so long. He would have to have it amputated.
This sounds like a terrible outcome, but what we're hearing is that he'll recover and readjust quickly, and really not miss his leg. With his sunny personality, we really just want him on the mend quickly. We know he'll have to live inside full time, and give the blue jays a rest. He doesn't know it yet. Being able to visit his loyal fans should improve things greatly. He'll learn, and so will we.
With the emergency visit and the amputation surgery, and pain drugs and follow-up care, Sezer's vet bills will come to about $1,000 - $1,500; maybe a little more. We understood we had important responsibilities when we adopted him, but this is a tough nut to crack for school teachers. If you're so inclined, please consider making a donation to help get Sezer back on his (three) feet again. If it's out of your reach right now, would you mind sharing on facebook? Thanks. Love, Sezer's folks
