https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5pExGGhFlo My name is Agatha Edwards and I am launching a campaign to give away 3,000 books on African-American History to children to celebrate Black History Month in February. Will you join me?
$3.50 could change one life. That's the cost of one book. That's all I ask. Because I want to change one life. Or 1,000. Or 3,000. (I realized later that the minimum donation on GoFundMe is $5 but you don't have to contribute a tip so it could just be $5, which is nearly 1.5 books! Just go to the pulldown menu and pull down 'other' and type in 0.)
Everyone needs heroes to inspire them to greatness. Who are the 100 most important African Americans? Who are these amazing Americans who will model our kids to achieve their own greatness?
I and Brownsville Heritage House in Brooklyn will give away 3,000 copies of The 100 Most Important African Americans for Black History Month.
This book is important because these are real-life Superheroes. In this book of simple, one-page biographies, kids will learn about African-American history. Each page has an historical picture, with birth and death days, and listed occupations. It follows with a concise biography. It has three Bio Bits and a quote from one of these great Americans.
The book is easy to read and perfect for kids. Also, teachers can use this book to assign these biographies for class reports. Or they can have students read these biographies aloud in class. It's excellent for classroom learning and is PERFECT for Black History Month.
The book is divided into activists, public servants, philanthropists, artists, scientists, inventors, entrepreneurs, writers, journalists, educators, clergy, and sports figures.
A child might start reading a single biography, then jump and discover another, and another. It's laid out for quick and entertaining reading.
These African Americans have endured the horrible effects of slavery and gone on to have great impact on America. With this book in the hands of a child, a life can be inspired. A child can see that others from the humblest backgrounds rose over their hardships and made great contributions to America and the world. Children can dream of becoming great themselves.
Teachers will use this book in classrooms for reports as well!
Will you help me? I and Brownsville Heritage House are raising $10,000 to buy 3,000 of these books at cost and we will distribute them in one of New York's most economically disadvantaged areas. It's an incredible way to celebrate Black History Month: by putting this book into the hands of a child and affecting them.
$3.50 buys one book. $10 will buy nearly three books. $25 buys 7. Hundreds of lives could change. Even thousands. Because this book will be read and passed on to other family members, or school members and this history will become better known.
Brownsville Heritage House and I will make sure that the 3,000 books reach schools all over the Brownsville area of Brooklyn and beyond. What a great gift for a child to celebrate Black History Month.
I ask your help in buying just ONE book for ONE child. YOU can change a child's life by putting this book in their hand. This is YOUR investment in a child in an underprivileged part of America. Buy a book and change a life.
All contributions are tax deductible to the not-for-profit Brownsville Heritage House.
Thank you for your help as we help others.
