3 Peaks (with little feet) for The IBC Network UK
Back in October 2022, the incredible team of Dawn, Joe, Anne, Mark, Seb (10), Aurelio (8), Cerys (10) and Ethan (8) embarked on the Three Peaks Challenge for The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network UK. They smashed expectations by completing Snowdon in 6hrs 49mins, a total of 11.3 miles. And our 7-year-old step counts were a whopping 31,318!!! Wanting to set the bar even higher, Team Bevan and Team Churchill are now tackling the final two peaks, Ben Nevis and Scarfell Pike IN THE SAME WEEK! Their determination to raise funds for this rare and poor prognosis cancer is incredible and is so humbling. As an added bonus to the fundraiser, I'm going to be swimming between now and 2nd April the distance of the ascent and descent of Ben Nevis (17km) from our back garden.
Why we are doing this: Breast Cancer has a lot of attention and charities looking for fundraising. I, unfortunately, have Inflammatory Breast Cancer which is rare, poorly understood and more often than not has poor outcomes for patients. Because of this, well-known cancer charities don’t research into it and even exclude Inflammatory Breast Cancer patients from clinical trials because of the poor prognosis. Luckily, the team at The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network UK fund research programmes themselves and so all the money raised from this fundraiser will be ring-fenced purely for research.
