My name is Cameron, I am 13 years old and over the past couple of months, I have been working alongside Camps International to organise a trip out to the Malaysian island of Borneo. The Island is mainly rainforest, home to a range of different creatures: Orangutans, Pigmy Elephants, Crocodiles and so much more. Sadly the population of these animals is decreasing, and the reason? Palm oil. The impacts of farming this oil are catastrophic for the environment and leaves many of Borneo's wildlife orphaned and homeless. One of the many reasons I am visiting the island is to help rebuild the destroyed habitats and help nurture some of the most affected animals.
Alongside this, Borneo is also home to many families, some of who can't access any form of education. Any of the children lucky enough to have a school available will have to walk miles and miles every day. Our goal is to help build and enhance local infrastructures so that the communities will have spaces dedicated to learning.
Of course, a trip like this is expensive and so I have decided that, in order to fund my trip I will climb all three of UK's main mountains. Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike. Not only will I climb these mountains, but I have set a challenge of completing all three within a walking time of 15 hours. I aim to undertake this task during the May half-term holiday 2023.
For every donation I receive, I will donate 10 % to Macmillan Cancer Support. This charity means a lot to me and my family.
