3 peak challenge in 24 Hours for Lupus UK

Hi Everyone,

On the 22nd August 2024, I’ve got a mountain to climb. Well, three actually. And I’m doing it for a cause that’s very close to my heart. My incredible mum has been battling lupus since 2008, and watching her fight this relentless disease has inspired me to take on the 3 Peaks Challenge. I’ll be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours.

Lupus is like that annoying house guest who just won’t leave. It’s an autoimmune disease that causes constant pain, fatigue, and a list of other symptoms that make daily life a marathon for my mum. Recently, she lost the ability to walk due to a hip replacement. She has a wheelchair, Zimmer frame and walking stich which have helped and progressed over the years. My dad, sister, and I have mastered the art of assisting mum with everything she needs.

Every week, my mum undergoes treatments to manage her lupus symptoms. These sessions are essential but exhausting, adding another layer of challenge to her already tough daily routine. Despite the constant pain, my mum keeps her spirits high and her sense of humor intact. I joke that she'll be running soon. It’s these small moments of laughter that keep us all going. And it’s her strength and resilience that have inspired me to take on this challenge.

I’m aiming to raise £250 for Lupus UK by conquering these three peaks. Your donations will go directly to Lupus UK, funding vital research, patient support, and advocacy. Plus, you get the added bonus of imagining me huffing and puffing my way up these mountains.
