Dear all, I hope you all and your families are safe and keeping well in this tough time that we all are going through. I know many of us have been confined in our homes for some days now but trust me it could be worse. During this lockdown period, at least we have a home to stay, food to eat and access to medical facilities but many in the world don´t.
I am reaching out to you here for a noble cause. As 1.3 billion Indians go into lockdown for 21 days to stop the spread of COVID-19, millions of them, especially daily wage workers fear they will have to bear the brunt. They fear hunger may kill them before Corona Virus. Because for many people in India, a day without work is a day without food. From the last three days, I have been hearing a lot of stories from my brother and friends in Punjab (my state in India) about people who urgently need medical help and food to survive this lockdown period.
After watching heartbreaking videos of people eating bread with just salt out of helplessness, I have decided to donate 20% of my monthly salary to help the people in my neighborhood who urgently need food and medicines as they are daily earners and have left with no money to buy anything. I know most of these families personally and I can imagine the situation they are in at this time. If you want to help such families then text me so that I can share some more details with you about how we can help them. I am sure each Dollar or Euro will help them so much because on average these families don´t earn more than $12/€10 a day and for the next 20 days they don´t have any source to earn money as the entire country is locked down.
How will the donation work? We are already distributing small packets of groceries that include wheat flour, rice, oil, salt, spices, sugar, tea and other necessary commodities for a household to extremely needy families like families with small children and physical disabilities. Each packet costs around 250 INR/around 3 Euros and that should be enough for a family of 5 for 3 days at least. We are also providing medicines and medical treatment based on individual cases.
I am not giving your and my money to any known or unknown organization or to any political party but I will send this money to my brother back in India who will then buy groceries and medicines to distribute in the poor families. (By the way, the mission has already started back home)
I know if we can panic buy stuff and stockpile food for us then we can do this as well. Thank you & stay safe.
