Starting over after the fire

There is no way to prepare for the events that took place on the evening of Oct 1, 2019 just around 7:30pm. It was just another day in the Minggia household as far as I was concerned, until I heard the words "Ma, the house is on fire". (Notice there was no exclamation mark after that) My son CALMLY came in my room to tell me the house was on fire, in his usual montone fashion. My initial response was "What did yall burn down there?" Referring to him making something to eat after football practice. He then put a little excitement in his voice to say "No, the HOUSE is on fire!" I had the fire extinguisher in hand ready to put out a little fire but when I opened the front door, I was greeted by huge flames covering the entire entrance and coming into the house. At that point my firefighter instincts were nonexistent. No way in hell I was gonna win that battle, TIME TO GO! I slammed the door shut and told the kids we gotta get out, and call 911. My husband was at the gym when this all occurred but quickly returned home.  Long story short we sat outside and helplessly watched the house burn. Once we were able to go in and check the damage, I had a little bit of relief. The fire was mainly outside but managed to make it in between a few walls. The actual flames didn't make it inside the house, but they still had to knock out walls and ceilings to make sure everything was put out. Great, our stuff is good, or so I thought. It never crossed my mind how much damage smoke and water can cause. The only thing we were able to salvage was our clothes. We are displaced for 4-5 months while our home is being repaired. Unfortunately we did not have renter's insurance so our lodging and posessions are not covered. Everything we had will have to be replaced and we are responsible for our own living arrangements. My family will spend the holidays and new year somewhere other than our OWN house. Once we return home, we will face the challenge of starting over and having to buy all new everything.  Right about now our pride is to the side and any help is more than appreciated as we start our life over after the fire. We thank everyone for checking on us, reaching out, lending a helping hand, encouraging words, prayers, all if it! Again we are forever grateful. Thank you ALL!
