Helping the Hammers Family
Donation protected
Jason Hammers is husband to Amanda and father to 2 small children. He was severely injured in a super crossmotorcycle accident while practicing before racing on July 29th, at the ScottCounty fair races. The details of what happened are not totally clear but don't matter much at this point. Jason was rushed to St. Francis hospital in Shakopee and they began to evaluate his injuries. Jason suffered a concussion, C1 vertebral fracture (lower neck), T6-7 vertebral fractures ( mid-back), a small pneumothorax, 3 broken ribs, left leg femoral neck fracture (broken leg), and bruising of one lung. The good news was a clean CT scan and no spinal cordinjuries.
They decided to move him to University ofMinnesota Fairview East Hospital, which was better equipped to treat all hisinjuries. He was transferred early Saturday morning, July 30th, and once they made the necessary preparations, he admitted and prepared for surgery to his leg. The surgery was an ORIF open reduction internal fixation with metal plates and screws. He went into surgery at about noon on SaturdayJuly 30th; the surgery took about 3 hours. It was a difficult operation because of the location of the break and because it was not a clean break.
He was fitted with a cervical collar forthe C1 fracture and will need to wear that for a minimum of 3 months. The cracked ribs will heal on their own without surgery. He is also non-weight bearing on that leg for three months. Although his head CT showed no bleeding, he did suffer a traumatic brain injury and has post traumatic amnesia. He's not able to drive or work for an undetermined period of time.
As with any accident resulting in serious injury, the unexpected medical expenses, lost wages and stress on the family is incredible. Fortunately, they have lots of family and friends close by to help out and lots of prayers on their behalf. Out goal in this GoFundMe Campaign is to ease their financial burdens as much as possible and shower them with love and well wishes. Thank you, in advance, for your support!
