Tommy - The Strongest Kid I Know

Donation protected
My sweet, strong and brave little nephew Tomas was born premature on August 6, 2009 at 6 1/2 months. After a week in the incubator, he contracted a bacteria called Enterococci, causing an obstruction in his intestines that led him to an emergency operation which left him with an ileostomy. He spent the first 2 yrs of his life in the hospital going through many crises, connected to oxygen and with intravenous feedings (parenteral nutrition). He also had peritonitis and lost a lot of weight. During that time, the doctors tried to reconstruct his intestines and stabilize him.
In 2011 they found a way to unite his intestines, the procedure was successful and he was able to go home, but always with the possibility of having another crisis and/or set back as he was diagnosed with SHORT BOWEL SYNDROME, but at that time he was able to eat by mouth and carry a fairly normal life. This is how it was for 5 years until the end of last year when he wasn't gaining weight normally. He was hospitalized yet again to try a new diet and treatment, but he was on the onset of another crisis and had to undergo yet another surgery, his 13th surgery, to try to repair the chronic obstruction in his intestines. At that time he spent about 3 months in the hospital.
Today 09/14/2016, he's in the hospital again fighting to get better, battling another crisis and his case is now being studied. He has been in the hospital for the last 6 months. The good news is that Tommy while being in the hospital is able to use a special machine to get his nourishment meanwhile the doctors work on a way to cure him. His parents need to purchase the same machine since it would allow him a life outside of the hospital. His parents (my brother and sister in law whom we are trying to help by setting up this Go Fund Me account) are taking a 3 month course to learn how to administer his nourishment via this machine, because it is a medical procedure. Once the course is completed and they have the equipment needed, Tommy can go back home and be with his mom, dad and little brother Mateo whom he misses and loves dearly.
This has been a very difficult journey for the whole family. They are all very strong and have worked tirelessly to find Tommy the medical help he needs, but it has also taken a financial toll on them. In order to bring Tommy home, they need to purchase the medical feeding equipment which costs $3,000. They also need to run some very expensive testing to hopefully get him even better treatment so he can assume a normal and healthy life.
We want to thank everyone and anyone that will kindly help out even with the smallest donation as it will go a long way to help Tommy. God bless you.
