Erin & Will (Updated)

It would be hard to find two more caring and compassionate souls than those of Will Levesque (57) and Erin McCarty (36), residents of Erie, Pennsylvania who have been blissfully married since 2014. They are people of deep faith who have repeatedly reached out to those in need; now, as they embark on a new phase in their lives together, their faith remains strong as ever--but they could use your gracious support.

UPDATE:

Will, an engaging and lovable defender of the poor and downtrodden, previously resided at a nursing home from December to May due to complications after suffering a near-fatal gastrointestinal bleed. These symptoms were compounded by cellulitis (a bacterial skin infection that causes inflammation of surrounding tissues). From the beginning of August, related health concerns have again caused Will to be confined to a care facility. Though his characteristically high spirits have remained undiminished, many basic living functions remain difficult for him. He can't walk right now, and he can only stand for a minute with considerable pain and effort. Family and friends have been able to provide some assistance, but Will's deteriorating mobility will necessitate a home health aide in order for him to return home. In addition, special equipment and household adaptations will likely be required for him to regain a reasonably independent standard of living. Nonetheless, he will need at least one other person in the house with him (aside from Erin) at all times for the foreseeable future. Insurance may pay for some of these accommodations, along with mounting expenses from past treatment, but far from all.

Erin, whose boundless hope and enthusiam touches many lives, had, during her all too brief time with Will, cheerfully risen to the task of helping him with his day-to-day activities. Unfortunately, during this already trying time, she faced a serious health crisis of her own. An operation late last year revealed the presence of ovarian cancer, leading to months of emotionally and physically exhausting chemotherapy treatments. Though Erin received good news in May that she appeared to be cancer-free, the road ahead continues to be uncertain. Results of her latest blood test were inconclusive, with indicators suggesting she may not be completely out of the woods in her struggle. Despite this possible setback, her own health is not the primary factor weighing on her mind. In addition to Will's ongoing medical issues, Erin has experienced a year which saw the loss of both her best friend and dear mother--both to cancer. She maintains her sunny disposition, but it's fair to say some days are certainly brighter than others.

Through it all, Erin has continued in her preferred vocation of writing, happily contributing previews of local theatrical productions for the Erie Times-News. Though she and Will remain upbeat in the face of adversity, they well understand that their future may present challenges that will require additional support. As for so many Americans facing unfortunate circumstances, health and finances are likely to be a source of continuing hardship. Contributions will go a long way toward relieving the financial burden they face, but please keep these two in your thoughts and prayers. Ultimately, their first and most important priority is to focus on helping one another and getting well.
