Thank you for viewing my gofundme!
^^This is Lionel, he's 14 and one of my best friends. I have to escort him to the litter box every night and sometimes in the middle of the night. And during the day. I don't mind.
My name is Cassidy Cayman and I'm a time travel romance writer. I've had a fair amount of success as a writer, and I'm super grateful for that!
In 2017 I was able to live out my dream of buying a fixer upper in France, where my brother lives. It was my dream to fix up an old house and live closer to my bro, so it seemed perfect in every way.
My goal was to go during summers and work on it over time, hopefully enticing my son to want to move over there eventually.
If you're a personal friend or reader of mine, you'll already know that my son suffered from heroin addiction. He was truly fighting it and wanting to get better.
On July 3rd, 2018, I lost my only child Sean to an overdose at age 22.
The main thing that kept me getting up day after day was my five cats-- yes, I know that's a lot of cats! But I love them and they helped me slog through my dark days. The depression and sadness kept me from working as much as I should have done, but I kept thinking I had all the time in the world.
Then I found out from my landlady (a wonderful person through and through) that they needed to sell the house we'd been living in for 14 years. It seemed like a blow but then for the first time in over a year I felt something other than grief and questioning why I was still here on this earth.
I think it was survival instinct, but it got me working again. It got me planning and wanting to live, as much as that still makes me feel guilty.
I want to go live in my dumpy house in France and strip wallpaper and refinish floors and keep my cats.
The thing about being an independent author is you get paid on a two month delay. I've been as busy as a bee and expect to have two books out in November, but I won't be paid those royalties until end of January.
I did my budget and I have enough to go by myself but I can't leave my cats. They are honestly my children now and sweet Bean was my son's cat so I kind of consider him my grandchild-- the closest thing I'll have to one.
I'd like to leave the first part of December as once I'm there I can save a lot more money than I'd be able to here in Austin.
If you're touched to help, anything is appreciated!
It is my goal and my intention to pay back these donations as I can.
What I need the money for:
Veterinarian approval and APHIS-- this is basically a special vet visit where they fill out a bunch of paperwork and then you submit it to the USDA for approval.
Their actual airfare and a rental car big enough to get them all to my little village, which is five hours from Paris.
Some essentials like food and litter and also some space heaters since I've only been there in the summer and my house has questionable oil heating.
^^This is Chessie, age 14, judging me. She sleeps under my covers every night and is just like a little doll.
^^Crunchy, black and white fluffster, and Guy, his brother. They are 4. Crunchy is vision impaired. When I adopted him, they told me he was blind but he sees at least a little and will play at any time of the day or night. Guy is timid around people but fierce with toys.
^^This is Bean, age 3. He does what he wants. My son texted me late one night and asked if I wanted a kitten. I ignored him, because NO. He brought home a raggedy, crusty-eyed little ball of fur and now Bean pretty much runs the place. I feel like he can communicate with Sean somehow still.
Thank you so much for reading and anything you can do to help!
