Support Jameson Morris

Donazione protetta
On March 12, 2019 my nephew Jameson was brought to the ER with what we thought was the flu, but it quickly turned into something requiring much for specialized and sophisticated treatment.  After a quick CT scan was performed out of an abundance of caution, Jameson was diagnosed with acute hydrocephaly (excess fluid build-up) which was being caused by a mass discovered in his brain. Words cannot describe how shocked and scared everyone felt because things like this aren't supposed to happen to you, right? Jay was then immediately transferred to the Pediatric ICU at Jersey Shore Medical where a drain was inserted into his head (they performed this in his room, not even in an OR). While this brought immediate relief to his lethargy, headaches, and nausea, further surgery would be required to address the mass initially discovered on his CT scan.

After several MRIs, blood tests, and oncology investigations it was determined that he most likely had a pineal cyst in the third ventricle of his brain.  Luckily, all cancer markers returned negative. Two days later, endoscopic brain surgery was performed to fenestrate and “pop” the fluid-filled cyst and additionally, an alternative drainage path was inserted to allow the cerebrospinal fluid to drain on its own.  A week later the temporary drain was removed from his head and he was discharged and returned home!

Jameson is recovering comfortably at home and is on limited activity for at least the next month. Unfortunately this means he can’t play baseball with his team for the time being, but he is expected to make a full recovery with no long-lasting detrimental effects.  He plans to return to school in a couple weeks, and is due for follow-up MRI’s over the next few months to monitor his progress.

Luckily, my sister and brother-in-law have health insurance but unfortunately, their coverage is only partial until their out-of-pocket maximum expenses are met.  As the first bills are being received, their $5,000 in-network maximum has already been charged, and they may face unexpected expenses of up to $20,000 due to out-of-network charges.  Not to mention Jay will continually receive MRIs in the future to make sure the hydrocephaly doesn't return (if so, further surgeries will be required). My sister’s family was in the middle of purchasing a new home and saving for college for the two kids when Jameson suddenly entered the hospital, and this is a massive blow to their stability.  I am asking for help to ensure that Jays’s medical setback does not severely incapacitate their well-being now and in the future.  All support is extremely appreciated, and any overages will be put towards college funds.

We are all incredibly grateful for the exceptional care that Jay received at Jersey Shore.  Dr. Lawrence Daniels is highly praised for his work, and we join his patients in commending his efforts in helping Jay.
