Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, Joanne recently had surgery to remove a brain tumor. We are grateful it turned out to be benign, and she is now home recovering. Her focus now is Physical Therapy in order to regain strength.
Unfortunately this came at a time when Joanne was not covered by any health insurance. She and Erik are bracing for the mounting medical bills that have begun pouring in: ER visit first night which revealed the tumor, emergency transfer to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, 12 hour brain surgery to remove largest of 2 tumors pressing on her brain and causing stroke-like symptoms, overnight in ICU, several more days in hospital, discharge home with physical therapy visits. Add to this her loss of work for at least 3 months, and the prospect of additional surgery to address the remaining smaller tumor down the road and it is all overwhelming.
While Joanne is still hopeful that she can find some assistance from state disability, she falls into a gap area which disqualifies her for Medi-cal. Many friends have asked how you can help. We are setting a $50,000 goal to help offset her medical expenses, though in reality we expect it to total much more than that.
Give what you can, and if you would like to do a little something more, call Joanne and offer to drive her to an appointment, to church, or accompany her on one of her twice daily neighborhood walks. She would love to see you and it would give Erik a break as well. Bring by a meal even. Or just call and tell her you're thinking about her.
This will be a long road. She needs our help.
Thank you so very much,
Cherie Emery Klein
