Paul Plattenburg, and his wife, Kathy, are going through some very difficult times.
Paul has some serious health issues and Kathy has some extremely serious
health issues. Here's the information as I understand it.
Paul, a former amateur baseball umpire, needs to have both knees replaced at the same time as both knees are bone-on-bone. He is also experiencing Stage 4 kidney failure. He was recently in the hospital due to fluid buildup in his heart and legs. He is now home and
back at work, as well as dealing with all of the issues that will be outlined below.
Kathy has been dealing with a neurological disorder for 3 years. She is now retired and completely unable to work. Her medical condition is undiagnosed, but something close to Apraxia, a neurological disorder that prevent her from performing motor function tasks… like walking...most of the time. She is completely healthy mentally. However, it has come to the point that she can no longer live in their home. Kathy was in Riddle Hospital for about 2 weeks and is now in a rehab facility. After another 3 weeks or so in the rehab facility, she will be forced to move to an acute care nursing facility. She will not be going home to live with Paul. This is a permanent condition.
Due to their financial situation, the house is being sold to pay for some of Kathy's health care costs, and Paul will have to move out, and find someplace else to live. Paul works full-time as a manager at Chick-Fil-A in Downingtown, PA. However, his full-time is only 32 hours a week. He also has to pay Cobra costs for their insurance since Kathy was forced to retire due to her illness. With his income limited because of his hours, and the house being
sold to pay for the Nursing Home costs, there is a strong possibility Paul will not be able to continue to live in the Philadelphia area due to the high cost of living. He may have to go home to the Poconos. However, he has no place to go there either. The other problem with that will be the cost, time, and wear and tear on a vehicle to make trips down to visit Kathy.
This is a very dire situation for a good man and his wife. Please try to help them as much as you can.
