Our story
While out for a mental health walk early this week, we spotted 5 kittens and their mum on an abandoned construction site near our house. They looked healthy, but we knew that to help stop the cycle of kitten litters overrunning volunteer rescue groups, we needed to help trap them and get them desexed.
We aren't cat rescuers, but with the help of some generous cat rescue volunteers near us, we have been able to safely trap them and now have them in our care.
We are very lucky to have space and time to help these little ones, but now we need the kittens and mama to be desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and have flea & worm treatments. That's where you come in! We're raising funds to help us with the costs involved in this next step.
If you can help these sweet babes get a good start to life we'd fur-ever appreciate you! We know that the cost of living is making things tough right now, so even sharing the link to this fundraiser for us could go a long way
They are sweet and curious little souls. Here's the bravest of them all:
Where does your donation go?
- Vet care! This costs $200-300 per cat for their initial desexing, microchipping, flea&worm treatments, and vet checkup (a big thank you to Whiskers & Co rescue for helping us set this up through their vet!). This is what our initial fundraiser target covers.
- Food & litter for 6 cats also adds up, so additional funds will go towards helping with those costs.
- Any funds excess to the needs of this litter will be donated to cat rescue groups who have helped us, so they can use it to help other cats in their care.
What happens next?
- We are building out our space for the kittens, and have had generous souls donate enclosures, litter trays, toys, and scratching pads. We'll continue buying food, litter and flea/worm treatments as needed.
- With the help of your donations and the lovely crew at Whiskers & Co., we get the mama desexed and looked after with vaccinations, flea & worm treatments, and a microchip.
- The kittens will go in for vet checkups and initial treatments if needed.
- Once the kittens are big enough, they will also get desexed, microchipped, etc.
- We hopefully find foster homes or, ideally, fur-ever homes for them all. Until then we will continue looking after them.
Keeping you updated
We'll post updates on this page as we get them! So far we don't even know the sex of the kittens - but we do have two names picked out... Stay tuned for updates here!
