Salutations Friends of Sonrisa!

We are headed back to the Pacific coast of Guatemala over the Thanksgiving holiday for our third (and final) mission of 2016. In April, we delivered care to over 400 patients in just four and a half days. We placed fillings and fluoride, extracted teeth and gave home care instructions to the gracious people of El Paredon, a tiny fishing village on the central coast.

In November we hope to provide more hygiene care. We have two hygienists committed to doing deep cleanings until their hands cramp up. We have four dentists and seven non-dental volunteers representing five countries, so far. This effort is snowballing and, God-willing, will have sustainability soon so I can pass the reigns and go scuba diving one of these days instead of making kids cry on my week out of the office.

We have a problem, but it's a good one to have. WE NEED MORE CHAIRS! During the last clinic we were doing extractions out of a Lay-Z-Boy recliner so that we didn't have to tie up one of the restorative chairs. Now we are going to have six providers (at least) and only three chairs to work out of. I would like to have six chairs and five dental deliveries, in case one breaks like last year. I also need a sterilizer.

The chairs are made in Washington and cost about $1,700 each. The delivery system (the part that you connect a dental drill to) are about $1,900 each. A sterilizer is $1,000. That brings the grand total to just under 10K.

Anything helps. NONE OF YOUR MONEY WILL BE USED FOR TRAVEL EXPENSES. All donations are for durable goods that we will use for the next 20 years. The volunteers pay their own way, and The Driftwood Surfer hosts us while we are there.

We are doing great things in El Paredon, and will continue to do so. Please consider helping us in this endeavor.

Thanks, from the children of El Paredon.

Yours in the light,
