Zach's Road To Recovery
Donation protected
On Tuesday, September 13th, 2022 at approximately 7:10 PM, Zachary was involved in a severe motorcycle accident. Zach slammed head-on into the back of a car in front of him. There were different accounts of exactly what happened in the accident. Zach is familiar with riding a motorcycle and always wears a helmet. This likely saved his life. The impact caused the helmet and his shoes to be thrown off of his body. Zach was transported to the emergency room by ambulance with possible life-threatening injuries. We were uncertain of Zach's condition and made a harrowing drive to the hospital, passing the accident scene.
Zach sustained a broken neck at C6 and C7 vertebrae, a large laceration on the top of his head, a fractured sternum, two broken ribs, a dislocated left wrist and broken left arm, and road rash across most of the upper half of his body. On September 16, Zach had surgery on his left arm. The surgery went well, however, he has still not regained full feeling in his left wrist and fingers. Zach had 14 staples placed in his head and had to have an emergency chest tube placed in his right lung as it had collapsed. Managing his pain has been a full time job. It was not until several days after the accident that he was able to sit on the side of the bed and take a few steps.
Despite the injuries above, Zach is home now and working on getting plenty of rest while his wounds heal. He continues to be in a lot of pain and we try to keep him as comfortable as possible. He is now able to sit and lie down with help and slowly walk around the house.
We are so thankful that Zach is here with us today. If you know Zach, you know he isn't shy when it comes to cracking a joke or two, trying new things, and has always been the one to light up any room he walks into. With that being said, Zach travels for work as a semi-truck driver. He drives miles for months at a time traveling coast to coast with his best friend Lucy (his dog).
At this time it is unclear when Zach will be able to return to work. On this note, the costs of the medical burdens and every day life expenses are piling up, so any relief would be so helpful. On behalf of Zach, he is beyond blessed to have been able to see all the faces he has been able to see again. Do not hesitate to reach out to him to encourage him and cheer him up. Thank you for all your wishes for his speedy recovery. It is nothing less than a miracle that he is still with us. He sends out all his love and appreciation for his supporters. God bless!
