A major problem that continues to trouble the U.S. education system is the disproportionately high number of behavioral referrals, suspensions, and expulsions of young minority boys in low-income neighborhoods. The needs of these students have consistently been ignored. which is why Hopeful HoriSONS (est. 2018) hopes to broaden the horizons of minority boys by providing academic and social-emotional interventions for students via afterschool programming, mentorship and accountability partnerships, and community building/service opportunities every month.
Funds will be used for:
- Healthy afterschool snacks
- Hopeful HoriSONS gear and paraphernalia
- Transportation and entrance fees (for community building/service trips)
- Academic/social-emotional curricula and training
