We are raising money for making the home more liveable for darren I.e the kitchen is the main issue as we ideally need low level work tops and under counter appliances so when I'm working he can have some independence , but also know that any grants we get will only reach so far . It's all the things we take for granted you only then realise what is essential to get around .Darren and myself his wife are reaching out for the first time in our lives for help . Darren found out in July 2015 that he had a growth in his spinal cord that was parylalising him and causing huge amount of pain . Through investigations and sheer determination darren carried on working to provide for the family and because he is so passionate about his work . After scans the surgeon found he had an interdural intramedullary tumor and a form of spinal bifita with a split in the spinal cord . There was a huge risk of instant paralysis and infections with any surgery so a great amount of decision making had to be done . After finishing the booked builds he had in he decided to take the risk ! It meant taking part of the back bone out to try and remove some of the tumor to relieve some compression and hope that it would give him some more time in his life to be able to walk . Nothing would be a permanent fixture unfortunately . After surgery they told us he had to have T-4-5-6-7-8 of his back bone out and a discovery of a bone splitting his spinal cord which they were hair raisinly able to remove along with a large lipoma and part of the dermoid . He's still in hospital and recovery is slow . No strength in the upper torso and hardly any movement in his right leg . It looks like he will be getting around mostly if not permantly with the aid of a chair . He has brutal determination to try and walk again ,That's my darren !!!
