We are raising funds for the family of Camila De La Gonzalez. Her family consists of her parents, Itzel and Jonathon, and brother Matthew. Camila and Matthew both attend Mid Prairie Schools. Approximately two weeks ago Camila wasn't quite acting like her cheerful and happy self. Her mom took her to UIHC ED and she has been in the hospital ever since. She has been diagnosed with NDMR- encephalitis. Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis is a type of brain inflammation caused by antibodies. Early symptoms may include fever, headache, and feeling tired. This is then typically followed by psychosis which presents with false beliefs (delusions) and seeing or hearing things that others do not see or hear (hallucinations). It is an autoimmune disease, where the body creates antibodies against the NMDA receptors in the brain. Camila is in high spirits but has a very long road ahead of her. Her parents have been told it could take months of hospitalization followed by months or even years of intensive therapy outpatient to hopefully regain all of her wonderful qualities. She will need to relearn to walk, talk, eat, potty train, etc. Itzel and Jonathon are with her continuously at the moment and are needing support to continue to be able to stay with Camila as much as possible. As a parent we want to be with our kids around the clock if something like this happens. This will be a long lengthy recovery, and every little bit will help cover medical expenses and help her parents spend more time at the hospital with her. If you cannot donate, please share.

Estamos recaudando fondos para la familia de Camila De La Gonzalez. Su familia está compuesta por sus padres, Itzel y Jonathon, y su hermano Matthew. Camila y Matthew asisten a las escuelas de Mid Prairie. Aproximadamente hace dos semanas, Camila no estaba actuando como su alegre y feliz yo. Su mamá la llevó a la sala de emergencias del UIHC y ha estado en el hospital desde entonces. Le han diagnosticado encefalitis por NDMR. La encefalitis por anticuerpos anti-NMDA es un tipo de inflamación cerebral causada por anticuerpos. Los síntomas tempranos pueden incluir fiebre, dolor de cabeza y sensación de cansancio. Esto generalmente es seguido por psicosis, que se presenta con creencias falsas (delirios) y ver o escuchar cosas que otros no ven ni oyen (alucinaciones). Se les ha dicho a sus padres que podría llevar meses de hospitalización seguidos de meses o incluso años de terapia intensiva ambulatoria para recuperar con esperanza todas sus maravillosas cualidades. Necesitará reaprender a caminar, hablar, comer, a hacer sus necesidades, etc. Itzel y Jonathon están con ella continuamente en este momento y necesitan apoyo para poder quedarse con Camila tanto como sea posible. Como padres, queremos estar con nuestros hijos las 24 horas si algo así sucede. Esta será una recuperación larga y prolongada, y cada pequeña ayuda servirá para cubrir los gastos médicos y ayudar a sus padres a pasar más tiempo en el hospital con ella.
