Junior World Championships

Donation protected
I am Anna McGrory.  I am 17 years old and from St. Paul, Minnesota. I earned a spot on the United States Junior National Kayak Team while participating at the US Team Trials in Oklahoma City between April  12th and April 14th this Spring.  I will be representing the U.S. at the World Championships in Romania, August 1st-4th. I have created this page to tell you about me, my goals, and to ask for help to fund this dream.

As long as I remember I have been around lakes, rivers, boats, canoes and kayaks.  Whether fishing with my dad, playing in plastic kayaks with my cousins, or going on long canoe trips with my family—I have held a paddle in my hand for my entire life. Although I competed in my first race about 10 years ago, it was at that time just for fun.

Club gymnastics was a huge part of my life, I competed in club for 10 years, and it was my passion. As my body started to fall apart, I started to look towards a new passion & goal. This was a really hard transition for me, but looking back I am so grateful to put all of what gymnastics has taught me into a new passion of sprint kayaking. During my freshman year I made the decision to give gymnastics a break and ramp up my training in hopes of making the U.S. national team for sprint kayaking. My selection to the team is the culmination of years of effort.  I have worked hard on and off the water, twice a day—lifting weights, running, and doing exercises geared specifically to kayak paddling. I am beyond excited and grateful for this unique opportunity.

For most of June and July this summer, I will be training with the U.S. National Team in Gig Harbor, Washington.  I am excited to have access to the best coaching available as well as the opportunity to train with the best athletes in the country. We will then travel to Romania for the World Championships on July 23rd.  After World Championships In the beginning of August, we return to the US and will compete at the US National Championships on Lake Lanier, near Atlanta, Georgia. After that I will finally come home on August 11th.

For the last two years, I have been working as a gymnastics instructor for the Roseville Area Gymnastics Association, I have a regular nannying job, and I also work every year parking cars during the Minnesota State fair.  I have used much of this money I have earned to buy a new paddle and to attend training camps, but I am still working to raise money for this summer’s training in Gig Harbor as well as the trip to Romania.  And of course I am trying to save money for college as well.

My goal is to raise $6,000 through this GO FUND ME.  This money would be used directly to pay for transportation, housing, and coaching during the summer while in Gig Harbor as well as the trip to Romania for the World Championships and back home.

Any amount you could donate, I would greatly appreciate. Sometimes when I am on the water, I train for long periods alone.  Knowing I have your support would be so meaningful and motivating to me.  Also, whether or not you can donate, please share this page with anyone who may be interested in my pursuit to represent the United States in Sprint Kayaking.  My teammate Samantha Nelson also qualified to the world championships in Romania. I could not have done this without her pushing me everyday in practice and making me a better athlete. It would mean the world to me if you could check out her gofundme as well! Thank you so much for supporting me!
