Chance Carroll Benefit

Chance Carroll is a lifelong resident of West Liberty (WL-S class of 1994), and has served the community as a Police Officer and Firefighter for over 13 years. He has faced many challenging situations, in the US Air Force for 4 years after high school, traveling the country as a firefighter for NASCAR tracks, & as a Track Services Coordinator for the ARCA Racing Series. It was at a NASCAR race when Chance's legs first turned to jelly as he jumped out of a truck to clear debris from a track, & he has been fighting debilitating hip & leg weakness without explanation until recently. In the past several months, Chance has faced his biggest challenge yet: a diagnosis of Progressive Muscle Atrophy. PMA is very similar to ALS, & will eventually take away all muscle function. There is currently no treatment or cure, and PMA is often known to progress to ALS, with average life expectancy of 5-10 years. Chance is working with the VA for medical benefits, but while the paperwork is being processed, he has some pretty significant bills piling up. He needs to move to a more accessible apartment, & his friends at the West Liberty Fire Department & Police Department want to do all they can to give back to a man who has given so much to this community.
