Hi, my name is Keagan. I am 20 years old and raising money to help pay for my medical bills and rehabilitation.
On April 8th I was riding my motorcycle. Around 9:40 pm, while coming up on a curve, I hit a dip in the road and my front wheel started wobbling. I tried to correct it and did not realize how close I was to the curb due to how dark it was. I let off the throttle and hit my front and rear brakes, causing me to fishtail right into the curb, launching me off my bike and into a speed limit sign. I was wearing my helmet and riding jacket and where my leg hit the sign, it tore my ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL, main artery and destroyed my meniscus; leaving very little of my leg. The Doctor's noted, had it not been for the lady driving the other way calling 911 immediately, I would have likely bled to death. I did not! I was transported to ORMC where the Vascular specialist and Anesthesiologist along with help from Orthopedics were able to not only save my life, but miraculously, my leg too!
So far I have undergone 4 surgeries, including the initial one to save my life and leg followed by the most recent of which was a skin graft to patch the back of my knee and the side of my leg. I will have 3-4 more sugeries before I will be able to even put weight on it.
Due to the extent of my injuries, additional surgeries scheduled for the next 5-7 months, and at least 1 year of rehabilitation, I will be moving back in with my parents. I am told I will have limited mobility and will not be walking during those 5-7 months. When the surgeries are complete, I will have about a year of rehab and therapy where I will be working towards my independence and the ability to walk again. I will be completely dependent on my parents and truly love and appreciate everything they have done and are taking on.
I had little money saved when the accident happened and will be unable to fully support myself for the next year-and-a-half; this has resulted in me putting my truck up for sale since I won't be able to continue making payments. Paying for the medical bills I have already incurred and those to come will be difficult at best. Therefore, I have opened a gofundme in the hopes that the donations will help lessen the financial impact that my bills will have on me and my family.
I will be forever grateful for any amount of donation or just taking the time to spread the word of my gofundme. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story.
Also if there are any funds leftover after paying for my bills and rehab they will be donated to another person in a similar situation.
