Help Derek beat Guilain-Barre
Donation protected
Many of you know that my son-in-law, Derek Armstrong, has been recovering from Guillain-Barre Syndrome for the past year. In its most severe form Guillain-Barre syndrome is a medical emergency and life-threatening – as it was for Derek. It has required multiple hospitalizations and has resulted in job loss. Through it all Derek and my daughter Linsley (Jean Holthausen) have done everything possible to manage their finances well, but despite that they have finally hit a brick wall. Discharge from Rehab to home care is scheduled but needed equipment is not covered by insurance.
Linsley says: “OSU rehab has been fantastic. We have run into bumps with equipment as unfortunately insurance will not pay for the lift to assist him in weight bearing and standing. And they won't cover the better Hoyer or transportation home and due to the height and size of the power chair we need to find a way to get it home too. And while those things are a bit frustrating, (and costly) we are very pleased with the progress he has made here and we are happy that the therapy team has been so helpful in trying to get everything settled. But the big picture is Derek is progressing! “
The lift assist helps him up and then he pushes up. The improved Hoyer will allow Linsley to more safely transfer Derek to his wheel-chair –without injuring either of them. His birthday is in May. How nice it would be if we could raise the $15,000 needed for this specialized equipment and other medical expenses for his birthday! Thank you so much.
