Standing Tall at Standing Rock
Donation protected
Like many of you, I was horrified by the images of the pipeline goons siccing dogs on the water protectors in North Dakota. My heart tells me something really important is happening out there and, thanks to the generosity of Rob and Raelyn Dolton, I'm going to head out there later this month and provide what legal and moral support I can for a week or so, working with DAPL Legal Connect and the University of Colorado American Indian Law Program.
In addition, I'm going to take 20 - 50 tablets with 5 MP video cameras, with portable solar panels and batteries, and give them to kids to use to document the resistance and tell the stories of those camps and the people involved. Each tablet/panel/battery pack kit will cost about $210 and I'm hoping some of you will decide to sponsor a kid getting a tablet camera and documenting that resistance. They're starting a school there, and I'm also taking a cheap laptop with a big external hard drive and hoping to coordinate having the kids upload their footage. Someday that might become a documentary called "Standing Tall: Stories of Resistance," but that's more of a hope than a plan and will require help from people with different skill sets. Worst case is these kids get the tools that let them document these stories.
