My name is Seth I am Megans boyfriend of three and a half years. We live together and work as a team as we try to better our lives in a combined effort for me to go though school so I can become a Medical Lab Technologist. We look forward to a bright and happy future but life happened to us this past weekend and we are reaching out to thoes who would like to help our situation.
Megan and I were passengers in a car accident. The vehicle hit the a tree going around fourty five mph. Megan obtained the most extensive injuries and was life flighted from Sigourney hospital to the University of Iowa.
Megans femur got pushed through her pelvis on impact. This caused her pelvis to break into many pieces. She fractured her arm, knee , leg and a has lesion on her face.
The doctors had to place a bar through her femur and tied a rope to it with thirty pounds of weights hanging off the bed to keep her leg and pelvis in alignment. After three days of waiting Megan was able to get into surgery. There are only three Orthopedic Surgeons in the state of Iowa that had the ability to do the type of surgery Megan needed. The surgery went very well for the complexity of the opperation. She had two large metal plates, one large connecting rod and multiple screws put into her body to reconstruct her pelvis. She will have obstacles to face for the rest of her life. Megan will need to go through extensive physical and occupational therapy to get her to the fullest recovery. She will not be able to bear weight on her right leg for twelve weeks. Megan will also not be able to walk on her own or push a wheel chair untill her arm is healed. Megan will have to have twenty four hour care until her arm heals and until strength and mobility is restored in her entire right leg. Megan is all clear from any brain and spinal damage. She also has all nerve responses.
We need funds for her medical expenses and living expenses. She is not able to work for twelve weeks or more and I am a full time student. I have one term of classes left and six months of clinicals unitl I graduate my program. She's been working very hard to send me to school and I will to do everything in my power to make sure I finish for her.
We don't like to ask for assistance because we are both strong willed people but this is to over bearing for us to handle as a young couple. The drivers car insurance will be maxed so it will fall back to her insurance. She does have an out of pocket max of $7,000 dollars and the rest would go towards living expenses.
We are so greatful for any assistance we receive, it will mean so much to Megan. She didn't deserve any of this to happen and I would like for her not to have to worry about bills. She needs to focus on her recovery and it'll be very hard to do it on our own.
