Hello, our names are Luke Rhodes and Kari Kuhn and  we’ve got a bit of a canine emergency here. The guy you see below is a ~10-month old pit mix known as Chester (though once you adopt him you may want to rename him to "Thor’s Hammer" or similar). Kari and I found him a month or two ago racing through the streets of Manchester where we live. He looked well fed and friendly, though pretty scared out of his mind, so when I tried to approach him, off he raced down 2nd street. We hopped in the car and after him we went. When we caught up to him I had to lay my happy-ass down in the middle of the street to finally coax him into deciding, “alright, this guy seems okay….” He came up, sniffed me, wagged when I pet him, and let me lift him into Kari’s car without any hassle.

We took him to the Carytown Emergency Vet to check for micro-chip, but no luck. However, seeing as how healthy he looked, how comfortable he was around strangers, and the fact that he’d been fixed, we felt pretty sure somebody would be out looking for him, desperate to get their pup back. We took him to our friend Drew’s place, where he happily chowed down on some dinner and snuggled up with Drew for the night (thanks Drew Barnocky). Next day, we took him into Richmond Animal Care and Control so he’d be in the best place for his owners to find him…..

Fast forward to now. His owners did not find him, and I don’t know what kind of person just cuts their dog loose to run around the city to get hit by a car, but I’m sure hell’s got a special place for them… but I digress. Chester has been at RACC for the past ~2 months, and he’s gone from being the intense but lovable goof ball that we picked up, to a mess. Being pent up in a kennel all day, surrounded by dogs going apeshit, has not done good things for his behavior. I’m not going to lie, his energy and intensity is at a 10… hell, we’ll say it’s been turned up to 11. The folks at RACC told us today that due to his deteriorating behavior, they’re “moving him to the back”, which is to say that if we hadn’t come in today and said, “hey, please give us a chance to find him a home” he would be on the docket tomorrow to be euthanized.

SO. We’re reaching out to you beautiful people to help. A few days ago we put out the message above to the social media universe in the hopes of finding Chester a forever home ASAP, however, that just hasn't panned out yet and we're running out of time.  So, we are now asking for your help in raising money to get Chester OUT of the kill shelter, and into a wonderful rehabilitation and training facility down in Virginia Beach called "Forever Home Rehabilitation Center". I'm not going to lie, it's not cheap, but they take pups with behavioural issues such as our boy Chester and over the course of several months work intensively to get him to a place where he can be safely placed with a forever family.

As mentioned before, we are short on time so we need to raise this money as quickly as possible so that we can guarantee a space for Chester at the Forever Home Rehabilitation Center and get him out of the shelter where he is in danger of being euthanized.  He is a sweet pup who needs all of our help.

Thank you,

Kari and Luke
