Help teachers meet the needs of their students!

Families in Khoupum India struggle to pay tuition and Tazei Public High School lost critical funding from a major NGO donor when it closed due to COVID 19 pandemic, resulting in serious financial distress. 24 teachers haven’t been fully  paid since February 2020, and if the condition persists the school may be forced to shut down without support from outside sources! Tazei Public High School is a private school located in the remote valley of Khoupum in Manipur India serving 400 over students in pre-kindergarten up through 10th grade. Studded with green rice paddies, the Khoupum valley is famous for rice cultivation and is mainly inhabited by the Rongmei Naga Tribe members. Most students in our school belong to the local Rongmei Naga Tribe.

Like many villages in Manipur, Khoupum is faced with a lack of sufficient and diverse economic activities. Most villagers depend on agricultural work to make a living, some parents are single working parents and many parents struggle to afford tuition for their children. Maintaining tuition is one of the problems the school has to address.

Also As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, beginning this academic year, we were unable fully pay the salaries of the 24 teachers and staff. The school is also in need of updates to the infrastructure and teaching materials. The school building is over 20 years old and the teaching materials are too old and outdated to satisfy the needs of the students in this technology-centric era. We are still not equipped with computers and need laboratory equipment, musical instruments and more.

The mission of TPHS is to offer the highest quality education possible. Unlike the predominant mode of education which forces memorization with the narrow goal of passing exams, our school aims to deliver lectures in a manner which instills a full understanding and retention of the content. Furthermore, the school differentiates itself from other schools with special offerings such as Skills Development Programs, guest lectures and more. Our teachers try their best to help students realize that great opportunities abound and that there are many possibilities for their futures and careers. We believe that this will eventually help bring about societal growth and development in the area.

TPHS receives some funding from the Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA) which is the parent body of Rongmei churches of Manipur and Assam in North East India RNBA strives to work to build the spiritual, social, economic and educational condition of society.
