My name is Rowan O'Conner, and I have been waiting for this surgery for most of my life. It wasn't until three years ago that I was put on the waitlist for one of only two surgeons in all of the state of Indiana (where I'm from) that does gender-affirming chest surgery. It wasn't until just days ago that I was finally scheduled.

In that time, I have done much transitioning - not only in my gender journey, but in my life as a whole. Though I am living in South Carolina now, I will still be traveling back to Indiana just to have this surgery, and will be there for a week to recover enough to travel back home.

After returning home, I will be unable to work either of my two service jobs for 6-8 weeks (depending on how quickly my body recovers). Only one of these jobs provides paid medical leave, and even that is only going to be 60% of my average paycheck. This will go to my groceries, gas, and other monthly bills besides rent.
