Let's Kick Cancer's Ass

My older sister, Christie, was told by her primary care physician that she had a fibroid (a benign growth) in her uterus several months ago. She believed her doctor and went about her life as anyone normally would. Several months later, she began having abdominal pains in the same area as her fibroid, but at that time was without medical insurance, so a CAT scan was out of the picture.

She had a feeling something wasn't right and began not being able to do things like put on socks because of how large the growth had become. Luckily for her, a nurse in her doctor's office went out of her way to help sign her up for medical insurance. Christie talks so highly of this women because she was a stranger, yet she texted her weekly with updates about different plans and made sure she filled out all of the necessary paperwork to get insurance. She even offered to meet her at the library to help her with the paperwork. Soon thereafter, Christie had insurance, and had a CAT scan done.  She was rushed into surgery less than a week later.

The doctors at OU Medical Center removed a 35-pound borderline mucinous ovarian tumor in a 3-hour long operation. A week after surgery, the pathology report came back and she was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer.

The prognosis for this type and stage of cancer isn't great (25.7% 5-year survival rate); however, she may have the opportunity to join a research study with a new, more advanced treatment, coupled with with traditional chemotherapy.  Clinical trials have shown an improved response to the new treatments with participants having a 25% chance of being cured. Knowing how strong my sister is, she will be the 1 ing 4 people who beat this. She is set to start treatments in as soon as three weeks.

As many of you probably already know, cancer treatments are incredibly expensive. My sister is not the type of person who would ever ask for money. However, her and her husband come from humble backgrounds and simply need some help making her cancer treatments affordable (even with insurance).

Please help her kick cancer's ass and donate what you can. Every little bit counts. We are forever grateful for your generosity.
