a sweet little baby boy May 10th. 'Baby Hummer' has complex congenital heart condition (see below for details). With this condition, the doctors are hoping to give the baby a fighting chance with multiple open heart surgeries. They are anticipating these to begin as early as the first week of the baby's life. Mommy and baby will be in the hospital for a prolonged stay at Seattle Children's Hospital while Dad stays home with their other children. We are hoping to raise money to help them with their additional expenses during this tough time! These funds will go towards the costly medical bills and charges that will come while Shannon is staying with the baby 24/7 for at least the first month in the hospital. We are so thankful to share their story and hope they feel our support and additional prayers at this time!
*There are three issues:
Shannon and Brent are expecting 1-There is a hole in the dividing wall between the lower pumping chambers, or ventricles
2-The left and right ventricles are in switched position, and
3-The main valve and artery taking blood to the lungs (pulmonary valve and artery) did not form properly.
These issues are not causing problems during pregnancy, as the baby gets oxygen through the placenta, but after birth procedures and surgeries are needed to establish adequate circulation to the lungs. The medical team is anticipating that he will require a prolonged stay in the NICU, where the goal will be to stabilize him and use temporary measures that will allow him to grow big enough to attempt to correct the three issues surgically. Addressing these issues will require multiple open-heart surgeries beginning as early as the first week or his life, and continuing periodically until he reaches adulthood.
