Hello, my name is Maegan Alvarez. I'm the Artistic Lead Designer for JCP/Salon by InStyle for the Seattle/Tacoma Market. Recently my dear friend, Gena Winningham, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer (Since updated to stage 4). Here is a little of her background. Gena and her Husband Kris have been together for 14 years and have 2 girls, Taylor and KayCee. Gena began working for JCPenney in 2011 as a Stylist at the Aberdeen Washington store. After learning that salon was slated to close in 2013,  she decided that she wanted to continue inspiring other stylists and take on a managment position, moving to Sequim WA to be the manager at that JCP Salon. She flourished in that setting and communtiy, also becoming a dedicated co-leader to Taylor's girls scout troop. She loves backpacking, mountianeering and being outside. She is active in a local permaculture farming project and loves to inspire others to be their best and over come any obstacles that get in their way.. She's a true asset to her team and community. Gena and her husband Kris had just completed a 86.5 mile backpack through the Olympic Mountains on August 17th,  when she found a lump... Gena immediately called her doctor and after some testing she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer... She is 34.. After receiving her diagnoses she was referred to Seattle for a prognosis and treatment plan. ( From where Gena resides in Sequim WA, it's a 121 mile commute to Seattle..) Once there she was informed that she has stage 2B aggressive (one that develops and spreads fast) breast cancer (since updated to stage 4). (HER2/Positive). Her treatment plan is to start Chemotherapy first, her first session was on October 18th. Once she has completed chemotherapy she will undergo surgery to remove the tumor and she will undergo radiation following that recovery. Gena is going to fight the good fight... She tells me everyday that she may be a Cancer patient, but she's GOING to be a Cancer SURVIVOR. I know that Cancer touches many around us in this great big world... As you know, this can be an expensive fight.. I'm hoping to spread Gena's story to help lift a little weight off her shoulders with the immense cost of travel and treatment during this difficult time. If you could donate just a little, we can make a difference together for Gena and her family. Thank you...
