On Thursday my sister Yanira died unexpectedly at the age of 38. She was admitted on March 31st and on Saturday April 16th her health took a turn for the worse and she became unresponsive and was moved to ICU where she had to be intubated.
After a couple surgeries to reduce the excess amount of cerebral spinal fluid, it was known that she had TB meningitis. The infection caused irreversible damage to her brain and the pressure from the excess cerebral spinal fluid caused too much damage.
Many tests were performed to see how severe the brain damage was and was notified by several doctors that they were not optimistic she would recover from this. It was on Thursday after the final test (brain flow study) was performed that we got confirmation that she was brain dead. With those results it was decided to take her off her medications and remove her from intubation. She passed away peacefully minutes later.
We are making the difficult decision to create this account in order to pay her funeral expenses, some outstanding bills, and other expenses that are left behind. Any money left over will go towards paying Angelica's student loan as she just graduated as a pharmacy tech. She leaves behind her mother, daughter Angelica, her boys Giovanni and Amador, her siblings, and of course her close friends and family.
Words cannot even describe what we as a family have gone through these past 24 days.
