Anthony’s Journey

- Hi my name is Paulette Fuentes and I’m from Rancho Cucamonga born and raised. I went to school at Bear Gulch, Cucamonga Middle School, and graduated from Alta Loma high school. I currently work at Cucamonga Middle school and have 2 amazing kids. Jazelle who will be turning 9 and Anthony who will be turning 15. Below is Anthony’s story;
- On May 24, 2022 Anthony was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease stage IV. As a parent this has to be the hardest news I could have received. Only a handful of people know because Anthony was not ready to share his story. We have been dealing with this difficult time in silence for the last 2 years and he is now officially ready to be heard and for his story to be told. Anthony has a Chronic kidney disease that will require him to get a kidney transplant. For the last two years Loma Linda has been our second home. Anthony was officially placed on the transplant list on August 29, 2023. He was placed on the list but wasn’t active because he had been stable. He has appointments with an amazing team of specialist every 2-3 months. Unfortunately, within our last couple of visits we have discovered his health declining. Our last appointment was on July 12,2024 and his numbers didn’t look so good. We have to go back in a month which is on August 15,2024 and if his numbers decrease as much as 1% he will be activated on the transplant list where the waiting game will begin for a kidney. We’ve also explored the options of dialysis but fortunately he’s still not at that point so it’s just an option we’re keeping in our back pocket. The goal would be to get his transplant before he needs dialysis. I’m sharing his story now because one he’s ready to share and because we will need all the prayers we can get to get thru this tough time. I’ve posted before how Anthony is my hero and this is the reason why. He has gone thru so much not only physically but emotionally and mentally. He was so angry in the beginning and then he decided that he would not let this diagnosis define him. There is so much more to Anthony than this “condition” he has done and will continue to do amazing things in life because he will continue to persevere. To know Anthony is to love Anthony.
- A little about Anthony for those who don’t know him; he was born on August 21,2009, he is currently a sophomore in high school, he is going on his second year of ASB, he plays football for the h.s, and has played baseball for Citrus L.L., he’s a huge Dodger fan. He’s an amazing big brother and like I said to know Anthony is to love Anthony
- Thank you to everyone who has been with us and have supported us during this time. I know there’s no time frame yet regarding his transplant but I’m going to be his full time caretaker when the time comes so I’m just trying to prepare ahead of time so it’s one less thing to worry about when that time comes. If you can find it in your heart to donate or even just sharing the link to the community it would be truly appreciated
