Film Fundraiser: Le Carrefour

We are Jessamine Irwin and Daniel Quintanilla, co-directors of The Intersection (Le Carrefour), a short documentary shedding light on the overlap of past and present immigrant experiences in Maine. Our premiere took place at the Camden International Film Festival on September 19, 2021. We were able to launch this film thanks to grants from TV5Monde, The Points North Institute and the Maine Humanities Council but we need your support to make The Intersection (Le Carrefour) widely available in educational settings and to general audiences.

In The Intersection (Le Carrefour) Cecile reconnects with the French of her childhood thanks to Trésor and his family, recently arrived Franco-African immigrants seeking asylum in Cecile’s hometown of Lewiston, Maine. Cecile’s Franco roots tie her to the thousands of French-Canadians who came before her to power the local mills, and who suffered from decades of discrimination and oppression. As history repeats itself, Cecile and Trésor develop a tight friendship that helps Cecile finally find her pride in being Franco-American. Please visit lecarrefourfilm.com for more details.
