She's loving and she's shy but she's a puppy full of sunshine and cheer. 10 weeks old, Mia the Blue Nose Pitbull was born with an ectopic ureter which is common congenital abnormality affecting the ureters. For unknown reasons, it is more common in female puppies than males. The ectopic ureter is one which does not empty into the bladder as is normally expected. Rather, it empties urine into another location. In the female, ectopic ureters oftentimes empty into the vaginal canal. Mia is a resilient little pup; her first 10 weeks have been quite rough. The runt of the litter, Mia made the journey from Anchorage, AK to Seattle, WA to go to her forever home. Shortly after her arrival, her new family told me that she was "leaking pee." After a trip to the vet and some antibiotics to treat a U.T. infection, her condition showed no signs of improvement. Unfortunately due to financial difficulties the family had no choice but to send her back to me here in Alaska. Mia is such a sweet pup who needs quite a bit of attention, so I decided to keep her for good so she doesn't have to endure any further stress. Currently she has to wear newborn diapers to stay indoors because she cannot control when urine exits, but the bigger issue with her condition is that her female parts become swollen and red from the urine and gives her a great deal of discomfort. If we are able to reach our goal of $5000, we can get her the ultrasound, surgery, and post-operation medication that she will need to beat this and live a happy and normal life. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my pup's story and to those who donate, thank you for your kind generousity!
