Mercy High School Malawi Solar PV

Christina and I often talk about the impact on  our lives from just where you were born, what family dynamics played a role in your childhood, and what opportunites were available to you.  Where would you be if you were born in Lilongwe, Malawi?  In southeast Africa you have different daily challenges like shelter, water, and food. This cycle continues in many villages in Africa largely due to the lack of opportunity for education. Then along came Peter Gamula.(pictured above)

Peter,  who was born and raised in Malawi and currently resides in Lilongwe with his wife and son, founded Mercy High School.  Being one of eight children of a farming family he was the first in his village to graduate from high school and attend college.  After graduation Peter traveled to the United States to undergo hands on training in a fellowship with Urban Promise International.  With his training completed he returned to Malawi and on September 6, 2010 Mercy taught its first class of 35 students in a rented garage.  Mercy now owns and  operates a 400+ student high school in five  classroom buildings on nine acres.

One of the many needs of the school is electricity to provide basic needs like lights, receptacles for computers, refrigeration for food, and electricity to power a well pump for water.  Currently Mercy has a small two panel solar PV system which provides some electricity but is insufficient.  The Selfridge Family Foundation's  plan is to raise $40,000 to design and install a solar PV system in September 2016.

Time is of the essence to get things ordered, contracted, and shipped.  Please make your donations by July 1st.

Your donations will give the children  at Mercy the opportunity for higher education and life skills that will change lives.

Thanks you so much for your help.
