Sadly my mom, Heather Jenae Ash Bishop passed away Friday November 4th, 2022 around 3:00pm.
As many of you know Heather had a long awaited kidney transplant in May 2022. After a summer of challenging recovery factors, she began to have more and more complications. She was hospitalized on September 26th and it was soon found that she had a severe CMV infection. This is a common virus that 80%-90% of people get, but somehow she had never had it. Her donor kidney carried the virus and in her newly lowered immune system it thrived and soon targeted her lungs that had a past of asthma and other factors. This all added up and her new kidney failed as her lungs were fighting their own damaging reaction to being sick. Once it became apparent her lungs could not recover they began preparing us about her odds of survival.
She was with her family as we prepared to say goodbye, and made the hard decision to let her go comfortably and peacefully. Her husband Clarke, her son Wohali and her daughter Shenae all held her as she left this world for the next. She was not alone.
We, her family, are now beginning to process of grieving and healing while also starting her arrangements. We’ve decided on cremation and a memorial later in Spring. Current cremation costs are around $1,000. Any additional funds raised will be used for the other arrangements and to help us get through this winter without my mom.
We plan on a memorial in March, because we want as many people to be able to come honor Heather as possible. We’ve had so many offers for help and we are so grateful. It is hard to figure out what ways we need help in, but this is one place to start.
Thank you for all the love and support we’ve been shown by all of you throughout this entire journey. We are beyond saddened that this transplant journey did not end in success for Heather. We can only plan to honor her memory and make her proud with the future lives we will lead.
