Rise up With the Grassroots
Donation protected
One year ago, Indigenous Climate Action blossomed from a grassroots and volunteer-run project to an established organization with a dedicated team. ICA’s team members are all Indigenous; we are proud people of Dene, Métis, Blackfoot, Cree, Secwepmec, and Haida descent.
The story of ICA began In 2016 when four women with a vision of climate justice brought together 150 Indigenous people from across Turtle Island to discuss the idea of Indigenous-led climate action. The response was tremendous.
Since then ICA has developed clear goals and strategies to empower our communities and inspire Indigenous peoples to continue building climate solutions. Our work is grounded on four pillars:
Host gatherings to discuss climate change, how it’s affecting lands and waters and develop effective climate solutions.

Amplify voices of Indigenous citizens who are active agents of change within the climate crisis.

Curate resources that uplift our ancient wisdom and knowledge as solutions for climate change.

Support Indigenous sovereignty, because we have the inherent right and authority to make decisions about our nations’ well-being and our future.

We believe that Indigenous peoples’ rights and knowledge systems are critical to developing solutions to the climate crisis and achieving climate justice.
In the coming weeks, ICA will be releasing a series of videos that will take you on a journey through ICA’s origins to where we are now and what we envision for the future.
Join us on this journey and help ICA continue to grow. Contribute to ICA by making a donation or becoming a monthly sustainer for 2019.
